Book Notes
Solitaire ChessSolitaire Chess™ is a single-player logic puzzle that uses traditional chess moves on a 4x4 game board. Players exercise sequential reasoning skills as they plan ahead to eliminate all but one piece. Players get ten chess pieces, two each of the Knight, Rook, Pawn and Bishop, one each of the King and Queen, and sixty challenges. Set pieces on the board according to the challenge cards and proceed to capture each piece, but only by using the same moves allowed in traditional Chess. Players have to capture a piece with every move, so the game is fast-paced and always exciting.
In the new DVD, The Power of Tactics: A World Champion's Guide for a Club Player, Rustam Kasimdzhanov explains tactics in the most amazingly simple way. The 2004 FIDE World Champion explains the three most important elements by starting from simple model positions and going on to examine progressively more complicated examples.

Reviews in Brief
Play Chess Like the Pros Play Chess Like the Pros
by Danny Gormally
When a chess book can combine a flair for storytelling, some humor, and quality instructional content – you have the makings of a stand out publication. Interestingly, Nimzowitsch's My System was the one of the first chess books to combine those ingredients - personal introspection, some humor (whether it succeeds is a more subjective preference), and imparting great chess insights. Gormally succeeds on all these counts.
Gormally's ambition is to take the reader through the contemporary chess world and impart his experiences and observations through the prism of those three observations. With practical steps on how to examine and assimilate chess technique and how to use the technology of chess engines, sometimes free or very inexpensive, Gormally's book stands out among the recent "self-help" style of chess book. The English grandmaster is successful in imparting to the reader a great deal of chess knowledge in one volume.
Gormally is a master story teller and writes with flair and passion about the personalities, rivalries, and camaraderie of contemporary British chess players. To set the stage for the chess techniques and analysis, Gormally first relates anecdotes, often times personal experiences, that give the world of professional chess personality and a human face. His humor and dry wit will bring many smiles.
